To celebrate World Environment Day 5th June 2024, LILBECKKING DEVELOPMENT FOUNDATION (LIBEDEF) led a major cleanup effort along College Road in Ekehuna today. Just our volunteers spent dawn till dusk clearing tonnes of trash from the vicinity. Armed with garbage bags, gloves and buckets, we removed plastic bottles, bags and other debris that were clogging gutters and blocking drainage.
It was hard work on a hot day, but so rewarding to see the visible difference our efforts made to the landscape. By cleaning up an area prone to flooding, we aim to reduce pollution threats to the local environment as well as risks to the community from floodwaters.
As our volunteers worked, we also engaged passersby to raise awareness on proper waste disposal and the dangers of plastics. Many were shocked to learn how these materials persist in the ecosystem and contribute to climate change. We hope residents now think twice before littering and committing to sustainable practices.
Thank you to all our dedicated LIBEDEF members who gave their time and energy for this important cause. Events like this not only beautify areas but remind citizens that small, collective actions can safeguard our planet. We invite everyone to get involved with future greening projects as protection of the environment involves us all. The climate crisis demands action – LIBEDEF is committed to doing our part through service, education and advocacy.
